SCHOOL I.T. BLOCK

Here the local planning authority were insistent that no new buildings could be errected with a ridge height greater than any of the existing school buildings. The Governors however wanted to make full use of their capital outlay, preferably with a two-storey building.

With their wishes in mind we carried out a comprehensive level survey to establish heights of the surrounding land and adjacent dutch barn. A feasibility study was then prepared showing fairly large scale excavation & remedial works including extensive retaining walls to ascertain just how much useful space could be provided within the first floor roof space.

The view above illustrates the extent of usable space we were able to create within the first floor loft space, given the Local Authority planning constraints. The use of strategically position roof lights provides a light airy feel within the studio without restricting work station surface area.
